End Career Hopes For Goalie

A young goaltending prospect launching his professional hockey career with a 7-1-1 record and two shutouts for a first-place ECHL team is impressive by any measure the Pittsburgh Penguins would apply.

But it’s particularly noteworthy when the prospect, Joe Exter, was just emerging from a coma about one year ago.

“What he’s done is nothing short of spectacular,” says Wheeling (W.Va.) Nailers coach Pat Bingham.

Last spring Exter was playing in a college game for Merrimack against Boston College. He left his net to chase a loose puck, and Patrick Eaves’ knee collided with Exter’s head.
