Gladiators’ Awe Recalled By Chicago

DULUTH, Ga. – The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that defenseman Jon Awe has been recalled to the American Hockey League by the Chicago Wolves.

The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Wolves of the AHL and the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.

Awe leads ECHL defensemen with 44 points and 20 goals and is only the fourth defenseman since 2000-01 to reach 20 goals. He leads the ECHL with 17 power-play goals which breaks the league record for power-play goals by a defenseman held by Joe Cook, who scored 16 power-play goals in 1993-94, and four-time ECHL Defenseman of the Year and seven-time All-Star Chris Valicevic, who had 16 power-play goals in 1995-96.

The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound Awe has three points (0g-3a) in four games with Chicago and has also played two games in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

He set the record for hardest shot in the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition with 102.2 mph on his first attempt easily surpassing the ECHL record of 99.3 mph set by Jaroslav Obsut in 1999.
