DULUTH, Ga. – The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that they will host a “Salute To Atlanta Traffic” weekend at Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
For the tongue-in-cheek celebration of Atlanta’s notorious reputation as “Gridlock Capital of the South,” the Gladiators will wear special jerseys designed to resemble the fluorescent vests typically worn by Department of Transportation workers. The jerseys will have traffic signs and highway markers on the sleeves. The players will wear the jerseys for their games against South Carolina on Saturday and Pensacola on Sunday.
The first 2,500 fans will be given a stress reliever in the shape of a bright-orange traffic cone compliments of Kia Mall of Georgia, Fox 5 Atlanta and Kicks 101.5 FM. The arena will resemble Atlanta traffic during the daily commute, including a road block resulting from a broken-down Zamboni that requires detours from the parking lot to the main entrance.
Following the game on Sunday the jerseys will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting The Gladiators Foundation for Kids.
The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League and the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
