Gladiators re-sign forwards Merrifield, Bahntge

DULUTH, Ga. – The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that they have agreed to terms with forwards Mike Merrifield and Daniel Bahntge for the 2015-16 season.

The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins and the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins.

Merrifield missed most of last season with an injury suffered during the Gladiators’ home opening weekend in October. The Michigan native would return to the line-up in March, and went on to finish the year with eight points (5g-3a) in 20 games. Merrifield joined the organization via a trade with the Florida Everblades in March of 2014, in the midst of a successful season where he totaled 41 points (17g-24a) in 68 games.

Bahntge joined the Gladiators in March after wrapping up his senior season with Mercyhurst College. He appeared in eight games with Gwinnett, tallying five points (2g-3a). The 24-year-old was Mercyhurst’s leading scorer last year as well, notching nearly a point-per-game with 36 points (13g-23a) in 39 games. Overall, Bahntge scored 127 points (52g-75a) in 161 career collegiate games.
