Gord Dineen Named Marlies Assistant

TORONTO, Ontario – The Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League announced that they have named former ECHL coach Gord Dineen as an assistant coach.

The Reading Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Marlies of the AHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League.

The 46 year old had his first head coaching job in the ECHL with Macon in 2001-02 and was head coach and director of hockey operations for Richmond of the ECHL in 2002-03. He has coached the last two seasons in the AHL as head coach of Iowa in 2008-09 and as an assistant coach for his younger brother and former ECHL coach Kevin Dineen in 2007-08 with Portland.

Gord Dineen began coaching in 2000-01 after completing his 18-year playing career. He played in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars, the New York Islanders, the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins and had 106 points (16g-90a) and 695 penalty minutes in 528 regular season NHL games and eight points (1g-7a) and 68 penalty minutes in 40 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
