Greenville Beats Pensacola 5-4 In OT,
Takes 1-0 Lead In Series

PENSACOLA, Fla. — David Herring’s goal at 12:59 of overtime lifted the Greenville Grrrrowl over the Pensacola Ice Pilots, 5-4, Thursday night in the opener of their best-of-five ECHL playoff series.

It was the second goal of the game for Herring. His first goal helped Greenville rally from two goals down in the third period to force overtime.

The Grrrowl never led until Herring’s winner.

Jordan Krestanovich gave the host Ice Pilots a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 4:55 into the game.

But Greenville tied the score on Dylan Stanley’s power Play goal less than seven minutes later.

The Ice Pilots got goals from Aaron Phillips and Ryan Vince in the second period to go ahead 3-1. Greenville trimmed that lead on Brian Lee’s power play goal, but Vince scored again later in the period to make the score 4-2.

Pensacola was 33-1-2 when leading after two periods during the regular season. Unimpressed, the Grrrowl controlled most of the play in the third period, getting goals from Herring and Lee to tie the game 4-4.

Herring’s winner came on an assist from Mike Knight.

All five Greenville goals were from players who have been on the team less than two weeks.

The Grrrowl had the ECHL’s 27th ranked power play during the regular season, but scored three times with the man advantage.

Game two of the series is Friday with play moving to the Bi-Lo Center Saturday for the third game.
