West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has acquired the ECHL rights to forward Igor Gongalsky from the Greenville Road Warriors to complete an earlier trade. Gongalsky is currently with the AHL’s Portland Pirates.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League and the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.
A familiar opponent to Grizzlies fans, Gongalsky, 24, has played in 178 games with Fresno, Stockton and Greenville. He has totaled 44 goals and 63 assists for 107 points and 365 penalty minutes in the ECHL. In 30 ECHL playoff games, the Ukraine native has added four goals and 16 assists for 20 points and 44 penalty minutes. In addition, he has played 10 AHL games with San Antonio and Portland.
Prior to the season, Utah sent the ECHL rights of goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris to Greenville for David Schulz and future considerations.
