West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham announced that the team has signed rookie defensemen Jason Binkley and Phil Pietroniro and rookie forward Josh MacDonald.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Anaheim Ducks and the American Hockey League’s San Diego Gulls.
Binkley, 23, played seven games with the South Carolina Stingrays last season and totaled two points (1g-1a) after finishing four years of college hockey at Ferris State University. He had 68 points (8g-60a) in 156 games during his college career and advanced to the 2012 NCAA Championship Game.
Pietroniro, 21, joins the Grizzlies after three seasons of major junior hockey in the QMJHL. He finished seventh among defensemen in the league in scoring last year with 47 points (5g-42a) in 70 games split between the Gatineau Olympiques and Victoriaville Tigres. He was a member of the 2013-14 QMJHL champion with the Val d’Or Foreurs and advanced to the Memorial Cup.
MacDonald, 21, had 52 points (29g-23a) in 63 games last year with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.
