West Valley City Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that forward Hugo Carpentier and defenseman Giffen Nyren have joined the Grizzlies from the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Heat and the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League.
Carpentier returns to Utah where he totaled four goals and five assists for nine points in 11 games earlier this season. In Abbotsford, this year, the 2006 Calgary draft pick had one goal and one assist in nine games. This is the third-straight year that Carpentier, 22, has split between the Flames AHL and NHL affiliates.
Nyren, a 21-year-old rookie, has played in 15 games with Abbotsford this year totaling one goal and three assists for four points. He played last year with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen and advanced to the Memorial Cup with them. He had five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 23 games during that postseason run. During the regular season, he totaled five goals and 26 assists for 31 points in 45 games.
