WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Utah Grizzlies announced that they have signed forward Dennis Packard.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The head coach of the Islanders is former ECHL player and coach Scott Gordon while former ECHL player Daniel Lacroix is an assistant coach for the Islanders. Former ECHL coach and executive Jack Capuano is head coach of Bridgeport while the assistant coaches are 2003-04 ECHL Coach of the Year and former ECHL player Pat Bingham and former Johnstown Chiefs assistant coach Matthew Bertani.
Selected in the seventh round (219th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-5 and 233-pound Packard has played two seasons in the ECHL with Johnstown and he has 18 points (5g-13a) and 18 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games and one assist and four penalty minutes in five Kelly Cup Playoff games for Johnstown.
He has also played in the AHL the last four years with Providence, Springfield and Worcester and he has 67 points (22g-45a) and 145 penalty minutes in 237 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) and two penalty minutes in 13 playoff games.
