WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Music was blaring from the locker room and spilling out onto the ice. Various Utah Grizzlies players were skating around, taking shots on an open net but mostly making jokes with teammates and taking it easy after a 3-2 overtime win over Alaska on Wednesday.
This is what rookie Dan McDonald missed the most while he was away wrapping up his college career. McDonald, a senior at the University of Ottawa, had to return to Canada to take six finals in order to graduate. His policy studies final was the most stressful, as that one was 55 percent of his overall grade. But what kept him going was the thought that he would be back on the ice.
“It was like the light at the end of the tunnel,” McDonald said. “It was a pretty hectic 72 hours.”
