GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl are promoting today’s game against the Charlotte Checkers as Education Day for the thousands of elementary and middle school children expected to attend.
While finding a way to justify grown men fighting and knocking each other into partitions as educational may seem far-fetched, it’s not according to Dr. Jesse E. Kinard, Department Chair of Teacher Education at South Carolina State University.
“What teachers should try to do is broaden the base from which their students operate,” said Dr. Kinard. “They are also trying to get them to adjust to society and how to operate and conduct themselves. Here they will have a community of the hockey patrons with which to interact. They will also learn oral language skills and sportsmanlike conduct.”
