Gulls’ O’Connor Named CCM TACKS
ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. – San Diego right wing Sean O’Connor is the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for December.

In his first season with the Gulls, the 24-year-old O’Connor led the team with 11 goals in December, including his first professional hat trick on December 11. He also scored a team-high three game-winning goals as San Diego went 9-3-1 for the month.

Selected in the third round (82nd overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-3 and 203-pound O’Connor scored 16 points and had five multiple-point games in 13 games for San Diego. He had a plus-minus rating of +11 and finished even or plus in all 13 games during the month and leads the Gulls in plus-minus rating with +13. He also leads the team with 12 goals and three game-winning goals and is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 17 points.

After scoring two goals in a 5-2 win against Idaho on December 4, the Vancouver, British Columbia native scored his first game-winning goal of the month in a 4-2 win against Idaho on December 5. The other game winners in December came on December 12 in a 4-3 win against Alaska and on December 29 in a 2-1 win at Alaska.

O’Connor began his professional career in 2002-03, scoring 23 points (12g-11a) in 49 regular season games with Jackson of the ECHL where he also played in one Kelly Cup Playoff game. He also played in the American Hockey League in 2002-03, accumulating four penalty minutes in eight regular season games while also playing in one playoff game for San Antonio.
