Sauer was 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .971 in two appearances last week. He turned aside all 32 shots he faced in a 1-0 win at South Carolina on Friday and stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 5-2 win against Toledo on Saturday.
In eight games this season, Sauer is 5-2-1 and is second in the league in goals-against average (2.11) and save percentage (.936).
A native of Rochester, New York, Sauer was a seventh round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
As a rookie last season Sauer appeared in 14 ECHL games with Charlotte, Toledo, Las Vegas and Alaska going 8-3-1 with a 3.29 goals-against average and a save percentage of .894. He also saw action in 15 American Hockey League games with Lake Erie posting a record of 5-7-1 with a 3.09 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901.
