LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced that they have been assigned defenseman Derick Martin from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
The Ice Dogs are the ECHL affiliate of the Bulldogs of the AHL and the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League.
In his first professional season in 2004-05, the 23-year-old was runner-up for Defenseman of the Year in the Central Hockey League after finishing with 34 points (9g-25a) and 71 penalty minutes in 57 games with Lubbock.
The 5-foot-11 and 185-pound Martin played two seasons at St. Mary’s University where he had 11 points (1g-10a) and 50 penalty minutes in 55 games from 2002-04.
He played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Hull from 1999-2002 and had 52 points (7g-45a) and 282 penalty minutes in 198 regular season games and five assists and 41 penalty minutes in 32 playoff games.
