Idaho’s Derlago named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Idaho Steelheads left wing Mark Derlago is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 28-March 6. It is the fifth time in his ECHL career that Derlago has won the weekly honor.


The 25 year old scored five goals, added three assists and was a +6 as Idaho went 2-1-0 last week to improve its overall record to 28-19-12.


Derlago was a +2 in a 3-2 win over Las Vegas on Wednesday and then scored a goal and had two assists in a 4-2 victory against the Wranglers on Friday. He ended the week with a team record four goals and added an assist in a 6-5 loss to Las Vegas on Saturday.


A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Derlago is tied for second in the league with 32 goals and is tied for fifth with 64 points. He has also played eight games this season with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League, tallying one assist.


Derlago has 290 points (145g-145a) in 231 regular-season games with Bakersfield and Idaho and has added 27 points (13g-14a) in 28 Kelly Cup Playoff games. He served as captain for the ECHL All-Stars, and had two assists, in the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic in Bakersfield in January. Last season, Derlago won the ECHL Plus Performer of the Year award after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of +34.


On behalf of Mark Derlago a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
