PRINCETON, N.J. – Steve Silverthorn of the Idaho Steelheads is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for October.
Under contract to the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League, the 25-year-old was a perfect 4-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.32 and a save percentage of .938. He helped Idaho open the season 4-1-0 to move into first place in the West Division.
The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound Silverthorn began the season making 32 saves in a 2-1 win at Long Beach on Oct. 20 followed by 35 saves in a 3-2 win at Bakersfield on Oct. 21. He registered his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career at Victoria on Oct. 25, stopping all 38 shots he faced in a 4-0 win. He improved to 4-0-0 on Oct. 27 when he stopped all four shooters in the shootout after making 39 saves in regulation and two saves in overtime of a 6-5 shootout win at Victoria on Oct. 27. Silverthorn, who attended the Dallas Stars Prospects Camp as well as training camp with Iowa before joining the Steelheads, ended the month coming on in relief of John Daigneau to make 19 saves in the final two periods of a 7-3 loss at Victoria on Oct. 28.
