ELMIRA, N.Y. – If the Elmira Jackals are going to win their first playoff series as a member of the ECHL, they’ll have to do it on the road.
The Jackals were unable to put away the Trenton Devils on Saturday night, losing 3-2 in overtime in Game 5 of their American North semifinal series in front of 2,756 fans at First Arena.
Instead of a celebration on home ice, the Jackals prepared for a trip to Trenton, which cut Elmira’s series lead to 3-2 by winning for the first time in three tries in Elmira. Game 6 is at 6 p.m. on Sunday and Game 7, if necessary, will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday, also in Trenton.
Trevor Kell (pictured) scored 7:56 into overtime after the Devils were given a power play when Elmira was called for too many men on the ice.
His goal came shortly after the Jackals were unable to convert on a four-minute power play of their own. Elmira finished 0-for-8 on the power play.
