Jackals re-sign Tassone

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans, announced that the club has re-signed captain Matt Tassone for the 2015-16 season.

Tassone, 25, served as the Jackals’ captain last season, and scored at nearly a point-per-game pace, registering 28 points (15g-13a) in 29 games. Despite skating in just 29 contests with Elmira, Tassone set a career-high and finished fourth on the team in goals. The 6-foot-2 210-pound forward also registered a team high +15 rating and added 107 penalty minutes.

Tassone also appeared in six AHL games last season, notching one goal in three games with Rochester and adding one assist in three contests with the Binghamton Senators. In total, he has appeared in 188 professional games between the AHL, ECHL and Central Hockey League. In 155 career ECHL games with Elmira, Las Vegas, Ontario and Idaho, Tassone has collected 92 points (44g-48a).

Prior to turning pro, the St. Albert, Alberta native recorded 119 points (73g-46a) and 343 penalty minutes in 187 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. Tassone was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
