PRINCETON, N.J. – Morgan Cey of the Johnstown Chiefs is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 6-12.
The 24-year-old was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.45 and a save percentage of .989 to help the Chiefs go 2-0-1 and clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2003-04 and the 11th time in their 18-year history.
The 6-foot-3 and 185-pound rookie opened the week stopping 27 of 28 shots in the Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Trenton on Mar. 10. He made 11 saves in the second period, but did not figure into the decision of the 6-5 overtime loss after Mike Betz returned to the game. He closed out the week making 50 saves to register his third professional shutout in a 1-0 win against North Division leader Reading.
