Johnstown’s Michael Receives
ECHL Broadcaster Award

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL announced on Thursday that Johnstown Chiefs broadcaster John Michael is the 2004-05 recipient of the ECHL Broadcaster Award.

Michael, who was recently chosen to be the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, finished ahead of Ned Bowdern of the Wheeling Nailers in a vote of broadcasters, media relations directors and media members.

Michael was the radio voice for Johnstown the past two seasons and was selected for the NHL Radio broadcast of the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game. He received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame where he returned to earn both his law degree and MBA degree.

Michael worked for more than four years as a trial attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh before becoming the play-by-play voice for the Hagerstown (Maryland) Suns, a minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. In addition to his broadcast duties with the Chiefs, Michael broadcast baseball, basketball, football and hockey games for the Pittsburgh-based MSA Sports Network which has over 40 affiliates in Western Pennsylvania.
