Jones brothers sign with Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Missouri Mavericks announced Thursday that they have signed forwards Kellen Jones and Connor Jones to contracts for the 2015-16 season.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

The twin brothers hail from Montrose, British Columbia and have spent their entire playing careers together, from junior hockey with the Vernon Vipers (BCHL), four seasons at Quinnipiac University (ECAC), and professionally with the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL) and in the ECHL with the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL).

Last season Kellen, a seventh-round selection (202nd overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, recorded 25 points (7g-18a) in 27 games with Bakersfield while adding 15 points (5g-10a) in 49 games with Oklahoma City. Connor posted 26 points (10g-16a) in 27 games with the Condors and had 10 points (4g-6a) in 41 outings with the Barons.
