Komets sign pair of rookie goaltenders

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Komets announced that goaltenders Matt Grogan and Kevin Murdock have agreed to terms with the club.

Grogan, 25, recently completed a four-year college career with the University of Connecticut. The Gilbert, Ariz. native was named the AHA Goaltender of the Year last season during his junior year posting a 1.93 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in 23 games. In addition, Grogan was selected to the AHA All-Conference Third-Team. Grogan finished his collegiate stint with the Huskies this season appearing in a career-high 26 games and registering a 2.47 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. Prior to college hockey Grogan skated two seasons with Bismarck of the NAHL from 2007-09.

Murdock, 23, finished a three-year stint with Lake Superior State this year posting an overall CCHA career goals-against average of 2.94 during his stay with the Lakers. Murdock appeared in two years with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL where he led league goalies with 2.24 goals-against average and .920 save percentage during 2008-09 and was named a USHL All-Star.
