Louisiana’s Materukhin Named InGlasCo
ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Louisiana left wing Alex Materukhin is the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for January 19-25.

Materukhin scored six points (3g-3a) including a natural hat trick, and was +6 while helping Louisiana finish the week 3-0-0 to increase its winning streak to seven games. The IceGators are 29-10-2 and have moved into first place in the Central Division and a tie for the overall ECHL lead with 60 points.

The 22-year-old Materukhin had two assists in a 5-1 win at Texas on January 23 and had an assist in the IceGators’ 4-0 win over Texas on January 24. He closed out the week scoring three straight goals in the second period in a team record 3:22 as the IceGators beat Florida 5-1.

The native of Kiev, Ukraine leads the team with two shorthand goals and is second on the team with four game-winning goals. The 6-1 and 200-pound Materukhin ranks third on the team with 13 goals, sixth on the team with 30 points and seventh with 17 assists.

In his first professional season in 2002-03, Materukhin scored 26 points (13g-13a) in 69 regular season games with Richmond of the ECHL. He scored 63 points (37g-26a) in 59 regular season games and six points (2g-4a) in three postseason games with Des Moines of the United States Hockey League in 2001-02. He played two seasons for Acadie-Bathurst in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League scoring 108 points (46g-62a) in 116 regular season games and 18 points (11g-7a) in 23 playoff games.
