The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.
Betzold played his first season of professional hockey in 2016-17 with Cincinnati and Elmira. He played his first two games with the Cyclones before skating in 40 games for the Jackals, tallying 15 points (9g-6a) with Elmira.
Prior to his start in the ECHL, the 22-year-old played for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League for four seasons, totaling 168 points (88g-80a) in 244 games. Betzold claimed career highs in goals (43) and points (65) in his final OHL season.
Correale also broke into professional hockey a year ago and finished fourth on the Mavericks in scoring with 38 points (12g-26a). The 25-year-old’s 26 assists was the second-best total on the team last season.
The Prince George, British Columbia native played collegiate hockey at the University of New Hampshire, serving as an alternate captain for the Wildcats in his senior season in 2015-16. He completed his time at UNH with 64 points (27g-37a) in 146 games while setting career highs in goals (16), points (25), power play goals (8) and game winning goals (3) during his senior season.
