Mavericks sign Paquette, Lauwers

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Missouri Mavericks announced that they have signed right wing Danick Paquette and rookie defenseman Dax Lauwers for the 2015-16 season.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders and the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Paquette joins the Mavericks having most recently spent the previous two seasons with the Utah Grizzlies where he picked up 65 points (28g-37a) in 108 games. The 24-year-old was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the third round (64th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Paquette is entering his seventh professional season this fall with 120 points (56g-64a) and 980 penalty minutes in 245 career games.

Lauwers joins Missouri for his first full season as a pro. Last season, he appeared in nine regular-season games and three postseason contests with the Colorado Eagles after completing his collegiate career at Northeastern University. The Anchorage, Alaska native had 11 points (2g-9a) in 106 career games with the Huskies. Prior to enrolling at Northeeastern, he played two seasons with Lincoln of the United States Hockey League.
