Merrifield re-signs with Gwinnett

DULUTH, Ga. – The Gwinnett Gladiators announced the re-signing of forward Mike Merrifield for the 2014-15 season.

The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Arizona Coyotes and the American Hockey League’s Portland Pirates.

Merrifield, 24, returns to Gwinnett after a successful 2013-14 season where he totaled 41 points (17g-24a) in 68 games split between the Gladiators and Florida Everblades. He was acquired from Florida on March 12 as part of the package deal that also sent Latvian defenseman Eriks Sevcenko (pronounced SEV-chen-koh) to the Gladiators, along with the eventual rights to Joe Stejskal and Brandon MacLean.

The 2014-15 season will be Merrifield’s third year as a professional, with 57 points (24g-33a) in 104 regular-season games. The Beverly Hills, Mich. native is a graduate of Michigan State, where he posted 29 points (17g-12a) in 91 career games.
