The Wheeling Nailers moved into a tie for first place in the North Division with a pair of wins over Gwinnett last weekend to extend their winning streak to four games.
Wheeling opened the weekend with a 7-2 win on Friday. Ben Street (2g-2a) and Nick Petersen (0g-4a) each had four-point games while Doug Rogers (1g-2a) chipped in with three points. Patrick Killeen recorded his league-leading 11th win with 28 saves.
The Nailers picked up where they left off on Saturday with an 8-3 win over the Gladiators. Jason DeSantis (0g-3a) and Kris Vernarsky (1g-2a) had three-point nights for Wheeling and Ryan Schnell added a pair of goals. Mattais Modig earned the win in net turning aside 32 shots.
Street leads the Nailers, and is tied for second among ECHL rookies, with 22 points (8g-14a), while fellow rookie Petersen is second on the squad, and tied for sixth among first-year players, with 18 points (8g-10a).
Wheeling has a busy week ahead with four games in five days beginning on Wednesday in Kalamazoo. The Nailers then head to Cincinnati for a showdown with the North Division co-leading Cyclones on Friday and Saturday before returning home to host Reading on Sunday.
