WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Nailers announced that the team and the City of Wheeling will be represented at the Stanley Cup Finals by the Zamboni from WesBanco Arena.
The National Hockey League requires that each team in the Stanley Cup Finals have a reserve Zamboni and the Pittsburgh Penguins selected the ice-surfacing machine sponsored by Riesbecks.
The Nailers are the ECHL affiliate of the Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League.
Former ECHL players still competing for the Stanley Cup are Aaron Downey with the Detroit Red Wings and Dany Sabourin with the Penguins which also has equipment managers Dana Heinze and Dave Zeigler and athletic trainers Chris Stewart and Scott Adams, who all worked for the Johnstown Chiefs.
The ECHL has been represented on the last seven Stanley Cup champions including 2007 by Anaheim assistant head coach Dave Farrish, players Francois Beauchemin and George Parros and broadcasters John Ahlers and Steve Carroll.
