JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced that rookie forward Peter Trovato will be honored by the Boston Celtics as a “Hero Among Us” for his work in establishing the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund which has raised $50,000 since December 1. Trovato, who is from North Attleboro, Mass., will be honored prior to the Celtics game against Dallas on Wednesday at the FleetCenter.
The Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund is a charitable endowment to help defray the college education costs for children of soldiers who have lost their lives in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 30 soldiers from Massachusetts have been killed in action since the war began, leaving behind more than 20 children.
“I would like to raise $1-2 million dollars,” says Trovato, who has four assists in eight games since joining the Chiefs on March 17. “These soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. My vision is to develop the biggest statewide fund for fallen soldiers in the country.”
