Nigro named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week


Anthony Nigro of the Idaho Steelheads is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 21-27.


Nigro scored four goals and added two assists in three games last week, helping the Steelheads to a 2-1-0 record.


The 23-year-old scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a 3-2 win against San Francisco on Wednesday. He tallied an assist in a 4-2 loss at Colorado on Friday and ended the week with two goals in a 5-4 win against the Eagles on Saturday.


Nigro’s four goals this season are tied for fourth in the ECHL while his six points are tied for fifth.


A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Nigro has 14 points (7g-7a) in 23 career ECHL games with Evansville and Idaho. A sixth-round selection (155th overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, he has added 52 points (27g-25a) in 175 career games in the American Hockey League.


On behalf of Anthony Nigro, a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
