Officials named for Winterfest


The ECHL on Tuesday announced the officials for the two Winterfest games to be held at Fifth Third Field in Toledo on Saturday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 3, marking the first two outdoor games in League history.

On Saturday, Dec. 27, the Toledo Walleye take on the Kalamazoo Wings at 5:30 p.m. ET. The referee for the game is Frederic Leblanc and the linesmen are Bob Marcis and Ray King.

The Walleye will host the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Andy Thackaberry will serve as the referee with James Scarpace and Eric Kipp working as the linesmen.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states, the ECHL has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 21 teams in 14 states for its 27th season in 2014-15. There have been 552 players who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League after starting their careers in the ECHL, including 11 who have made their NHL debuts in the 2014-15 season. The ECHL has affiliations with 29 of the 30 NHL teams in 2014-15, marking the 18th consecutive season that the league had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
