Orlando agrees to terms with Cepis, Nielsen

Orlando, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced that they have agreed to terms with forward Jacob Cepis and defenseman Carl Nielsen.

Cepis was named the team MVP following the 2013-14 season after leading the team with 36 assists and finishing second on the team with 56 points in 48 games. The Parma, Ohio native finished the season with 15 multiple-point games, picked up three assists in a single game on five separate occasions and tallied six game-winning goals. Heading into his fourth professional season, Cepis has played in 171 regular season games in his ECHL career, posting 177 points (65g-112a). In 2012-13, Cepis finished fourth in the ECHL with 51 assists in 66 games split between the Idaho Steelheads and Trenton Titans. He has skated in 28 games in Europe, including 25 games for Karlskona (Sweden 2nd division) prior to joining the Solar Bears last season and three games for Tappara in the Finish Elite League in 2011-12.

Nielsen completed his first full professional season last year, playing in seven games for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and earning nine points (4g-5a) and 51 penalty minutes in 44 games for the Florida Everblades. Prior to starting his professional career, the Lorain, Ohio native completed four seasons (2009-13) of college hockey with Michigan Tech, picking up 155 penalty minutes while posting 20 points (4g-16a). Nielsen was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
