PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have re-signed right wing Michel Ouellet, who played for the Wheeling Nailers as a rookie. The Nailers are the ECHL affiliate for the Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
In his first professional season in 2002-03, Ouellet had 46 points (20g-26a) in 55 games with Wheeling and two assists in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Selected in the fourth round (124th overall) by the Penguins in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 23-year-old Ouellet led Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2004-05 with 31 goals and 63 points in 80 regular season games and had five points (2g-3a) in 11 playoff games.
In 2003-04 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the 6-0 and 200-pound Ouellet had 49 points (30g-19a) in 79 regular season games and 12 points (2g-10a) in 22 postseason games as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton reached the Calder Cup Finals.
