It’s not just about hockey bragging rights anymore.

Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes Friday wagered a half dozen of Trenton’s finest tomato pies that the Titans will prevail in their ECHL championship battle against the Florida Everblades.

Hughes’ counterpart, Lee County Manager Donald Stilwell, won’t even have to order takeout if the Everblades falter in the showdown for the Kelly Cup. He bet a package of oranges and grapefruit.

Hughes assured fans Friday it’s just food, nothing personal, but the bet is evidence that he’s a Titans believer.

“It’s something that’s been traditional to have these wagers and we wanted to stay with tradition,” Hughes said.

The best-of-seven series begins Saturday at 7:30 in Estero, Fla., near Fort Myers.
