FLORENCE, S.C. – The Pee Dee Pride announced on Monday that, effective immediately, it has changed its name to the Florence Pride.
“This name change is something that we have put a lot of thought into. It is not a rush decision,” said Pride Governor Fred DuBard. “With the East Coast Hockey League expanding for the upcoming season to include teams on the west coast, this league is now national, and exposure is certainly going to increase. The national scope of the league will certainly help to put Florence, South Carolina on the map.”
Since moving to Florence from Knoxville, Tenn. prior to 1997-98, the team has been known as the Pee Dee Pride, taking its name from the six-county region in Northeastern South Carolina.
The team’s new web site is www.florencepride.com.
