NEW YORK – The New York Rangers of the National Hockey League announced that they have acquired former ECHL defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, center Joe Barnes and a third-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for center Matt Cullen.
The Charlotte Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers of the NHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
Selected by Nashville in the second round (54th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hutchinson had seven points (2g-5a) in 10 games with Toledo as a rookie in 2002-03 while also playing in the AHL where he had 26 points (9g-17a) in 63 regular season games and one goal in three postseason games with Milwaukee.
The 27 year old had 14 points (3g-11a) in 41 games with Carolina in 2006-07, establishing career highs in games (41), assists (11), points (14) and penalty minutes (30). He had 11 points (3g-8a) in 36 games with the Hurricanes in 2005-06, missing 25 games due to injury. He was on the teams Stanley Cup Playoffs roster, but did not appear in any games.
The 6-foot-2 and 206-pound defenseman has 33 points (10g-23a) in 95 career NHL games with Carolina and Nashville.
