PRINCETON, N.J. – Peter Hamerlik of the Reading Royals is the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for February.
Under contract to Boston of the National Hockey League Hamerlik was 6-0-1 with a 1.42 goals against average and a save percentage of .955 as Reading went 9-3-1 and improved to 31-17-8. Looking for their first Kelly Cup Playoff appearance in three seasons, the Royals ended the month sitting in the fifth and final playoff position in the Northern Division.
Hamerlik was named the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for February 9-15 after going 4-0-0 with a 1.25 goals against average and a save percentage of .963. He made 32 saves in a 4-2 win against Trenton on February 11 and stopped 32 of 33 shots in a 6-1 win against Dayton on February 13. He had a season-high 40 saves in the Royals 6-1 win against Johnstown on February 14 and made 25 saves in a 4-1 win against Cincinnati on February 15.
Following a 3-2 shootout loss against Atlantic City on February 20, Hamerlik made 25 saves in a 3-2 win against Bakersfield on February 21 and stopped 29 shots in a 6-2 win against Atlantic City on February 24. He closed out the month making 14 saves while playing the final 39:02 of a 5-3 loss at Peoria on February 28.
