Reading’s Hommel Receives
ECHL Merchandiser Award

ATLANTA – The ECHL announced on Friday that Brian Hommel of the Reading Royals is the 2003-04 recipient of the ECHL Merchandiser Award.

Hommel was presented the award at the ECHL Marketing and Communications Meetings held June 7-9 in Atlanta. The meetings were attended by more than 170 representatives from ECHL teams. The winner is chosen in a vote of league general managers and merchandise directors.

Brian has been Director of Merchandise for the Royals since their inaugural season in 2001. Hommel is responsible for all aspects of the merchandise department. His sports career began in 1997 with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings baseball club in Harlingen, Texas. After one season in Texas, Brian began his hockey career in the Western Professional Hockey League with the Monroe Moccasins in Louisiana where he was hired as the Director of Merchandise for their inaugural season. From there, he moved on to become Director of Merchandise for the Fort Worth Brahmas hockey club of the WPHL. Brian worked from 1998-2001 for the Brahmas and was named WPHL Merchandise Executive of the Year following the 1999-2000 season.
