ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign announced that they have signed defensemen Chad Starling and Shawn Germain.The Reign are the ECHL affiliate of the Kings of the NHL and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
The 28-year-old Starling helped Cincinnati win both the regular season Brabham Cup title and the Kelly Cup Championship in 2007-08. He had 22 points (2g-20a) and 88 penalty minutes in 63 regular season games and three assists and 49 penalty minutes in 21 Kelly Cup Playoff games. Starling was the recipient of the Rbk Hockey Plus Performer of the Year award after finishing +48, it ties the fifth-best plus-minus rating in the 20-year history of the league and is the highest since 1995-96 when Kim Maier led the league with +48.
The first professional sports team in Ontario, Calif., the Reign begin play in the ECHL in 2008-09 and play their first home game on Oct. 25 at the new state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arena, a $130 million multi-purpose facility with 9,736 seats as well as 36 suites, a continuous concourse and a VIP club.
