Rookie standout Bergland re-signs with Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. – The
Stockton Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders, announced today that forward Matt Bergland has agreed to terms with the club for the 2013-14 season.

Bergland, whose overtime goal ended Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against Las Vegas, registered 29 points (11g-18a) in 59 games with the Thunder in his debut season as a professional. He added 10 points (4g-6a) in 22 games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Prior to joining the Thunder last season, Bergland, 23, played four seasons at Providence College, where he produced 82 points (33g-49a) in 138 career games. He was named Stockton’s “Rookie of the Year” in his first pro season.
