Root named CCM ECHL Player of the Month

Missouri Mavericks’ forward Jesse Root has been named the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for November.

Root scored eight goals, added nine assists and was a +7 in 12 games in November helping the Mavericks to a 12-0-0 record during the month.

The 25-year-old had at least one point in nine of his 12 games, including six multi-point games. Root scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-3 win at Quad City on Nov. 4 and in a 5-2 victory at Wichita on Nov. 21. He ended the month on a six-game point streak, over which he tallied 12 points (6g-6a).

Under an American Hockey League contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Root leads the ECHL with 13 goals and 77 shots on goal and is tied for the league lead with 25 points.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Root has recorded 41 points (21g-20a) in 35 career ECHL games with Missouri and Idaho while adding 13 points (6g-7a) in 48 career AHL games with Bridgeport and Texas.

Prior to turning pro, Root played four seasons at Yale University where he scored 92 points (35g-57a) in 122 career games and was part of the 2013 team that captured the National Championship.
