ESTERO, Fla. – Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Greg Poss announced today the team has agreed to terms with forward Mathieu Roy to for the 2011-12 season.
The Everblades are the ECHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League and the Charlotte Checkers and Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.
Roy rejoins the Everblades for his fourth straight season. The Everblades captain ranked second in games played (67) and penalty minutes (107) during the 2010-11 campaign. Last season, the Amos Quebec native fired in 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points. He ranks eighth on the all-time games played list in Everblades history with 187.
Prior to his last three years in Florida, Roy played one season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots in 2007-08. Appearing in all 72 contests in his rookie season, Roy scored 16 goals and a pro career high of 29 assists for 45 points. The 6-foot, 200-pound forward played his junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Acadie-Bathurst Titans and Val d’Or Foreurs. The highlight of his junior career came in the 2006-07 season when Roy helped the Foreurs claim the QMJHL championship scoring 24 points in 20 playoff games.
