READING, Pa. – The Reading Royals and Boscov’s Department Stores of Reading announced that they will raise funds and awareness in the continuing effort to find a cure for breast cancer, including “Pink In The Rink” on Feb. 1 when the Royals host the Johnstown Chiefs at the Sovereign Center.
Projected to be the largest fundraising effort in team history, the fundraiser will benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The joint initiative begins Tuesday when fans will be able to purchase a “Pink in the Rink Package” at all nine Boscov’s Department Stores in the Reading area. The package costs $25, which includes a ticket to the Feb. 1 game and a commemorative pink T-shirt with the Royals “Pink In The Rink” logo, and $10 from each purchase will go directly to BCSS and BCRF. Boscov’s and the Royals will also sell a collector’s edition pink hat whose net proceeds will also be donated to BCSS and BCRF.
The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
“Pink in the Rink” promotions in Charlotte, Columbia, Florida, Fresno, Idaho, South Carolina, Stockton and Utah last season helped raise nearly $200,000 for breast cancer organizations while the Third Annual Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon in Bakersfield raised $61,238 and Phoenix garnered almost $20,000 with Face-Off Against Kids Cancer.
