READING, Pa. – The Reading Royals announced that they have named Karl Taylor as head coach and director of hockey operations. The Royals are the ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
Taylor, who was a guest coach at the Kings Rookie Development Camp in California, is the fourth head coach since the team moved to Reading in 2001-02. He replaces Derek Clancey, who led Reading to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of his two seasons behind the bench before accepting a position as assistant coach with the Monarchs.
Taylor comes to Reading from the University of Waterloo where he was the first full-time head coach, compiling a 21-22-5 record in two seasons. In his second season in 2004-05, Taylor was named Ontario University Athletics West Coach of the Year following a 13-8-3 finish that included an eight-game unbeaten streak in January.
