Stewart’s 28 saves lead Jackals to 3-0 win

Now it comes down to one game.

Brian Stewart stopped all 28 shots he faced Saturday, leading the Elmira Jackals to a 3-0 victory over the Reading Royals in Game 4 of the Kelly Cup playoffs at First Arena.

With the best-of-five series now tied at 2-2, the fifth and decisive game will take place Monday night at First Arena. The winner will move on to face the Florida Everblades in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard Saturday until Matt Campanale ended the drought 7 minutes, 34 seconds into the third period, assisted by Artem Demkov.

K-Wings advance to Conference Semifinals
Kalamazoo wins series 3-1

With action fast and furious around goalie Riley Gill, the Wheeling Nailers played the final minute of the hockey game with the desperation of an elimination game.

But the Kalamazoo Wings and Gill held off all attempts and held onto a 3-2 victory that puts them into the ECHL’s best-of-seven second round of the playoffs.

“Wheeling played strong,” K-Wings forward Trent Daavettila said. “Gillsy played great for us. You can count the big timely saves he had for us.

“We seemed to just kinda roll with that, get pucks deep, kept it simple there for most of the third and held on for the win.”

After dropping the first game, the K-Wings won the next three to clinch the best-of-five series.

Ontario stays alive with 3-2 win

The Ontario Reign are still alive in the playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads in front of a crowd of 3,205 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday night.

Bill Bagron opened up the game with a goal at the 14:10 mark in the first period on power play, just as the play expired.

Geoff Irwin netted the second goal of the game in the first minute of the second quarter off a crisp pass from Tristan King.

The Reign never relinquished their lead as Kevin Estrada scored off an assist by Chris Huxley with 10:31 left to play in the second period.
