BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced that goaltender Matt Underhill has been loaned to Providence of the American Hockey League.
It is the second AHL call up of the season for the 25-year-old Underhill, who earlier was called up by St. John’s. Underhill came on in relief on February 11 and made 17 saves in the final 38:32 before losing 4-3 in a shootout that reached the seventh round.
In 24 games with the Sea Wolves, the 6-2 and 220-pound Underhill is 13-8-3 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.65 and a save percentage of .923.
Selected by Calgary in the sixth round (170th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and a 2002 ECHL All-Star Game selection, Underhill made an emergency start for the Chicago Blackhawks on March 7, 2004 and made 29 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton.
