Smith, Rookie Tardif Join Storm

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Storm announced that they have extended training camp invitations to left wing Scooter Smith (pictured) and rookie center Jamie Tardif.

The Storm is the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.

The 25-year-old Smith had 60 points (23g-37a) and 81 penalty minutes in 59 regular season games and nine points (3g-6a) and 14 penalty minutes in 13 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Toledo in 2005-06 while also playing in the AHL where he appeared in two games with Portland and two games with Lowell. He has played in the ECHL each of his first three professional seasons and has 129 points (47g-82a) and 146 penalty minutes in 167 regular season games and 10 points (3g-7a) and 20 penalty minutes in 17 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs with Dayton, Reading, Toledo and Trenton.

Selected in the fourth round (112th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 21-year-old Tardif has played the last five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League where he had 291 points (155g-136a) and 310 penalty minutes in 324 regular season games and 31 points (17g-14a) and 34 penalty minutes in 46 postseason games with Peterborough.
