Sol joins Fort Wayne blue line

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Komets announced that defenseman Cody Sol has agreed to terms and has been added to the preseason roster.

The Komets are the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.

Sol, 23, will be entering his third pro year of pro hockey after registering career highs of six goals, 10 assists, 16 points and 121 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Ontario Reign last season.

The 6-foot, five-inch, 242-pound defenseman made his juniors debut in 2007-08 appearing in 12 games with Saginaw in the OHL. Sol was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fifth round (125th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and made his pro debut appearing in one game with Chicago of the AHL during 2009-10. The Woodstock, Ontario native completed his five-year juniors career in 2011-12 leading Kitchener defensemen with 15 goals and 178 penalty minutes in 62 games. During 2012-13 Sol split the season skating 26 AHL games with St. John’s and 25 with Colorado in the ECHL.
