Solar Bears sign Karlsson

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Ludwig Karlsson.

Karlsson, 24, split the 2014-15 season between the Idaho Steelheads and Missouri Mavericks while under contract to the NHL’s Dallas Stars, posting 30 points (16g-14a) and adding 26 penalty minutes in 58 games. Karlsson also skated in two games with the Texas Stars of the AHL.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward has skated in 97 career ECHL games with Elmira, Idaho and Missouri, recording 54 points (27g-27a) and 30 penalty minutes. He has also skated 10 career AHL games with Binghamton and Texas.

Prior to turning pro, the native of Stockholm, Sweden spent two years at Northeastern University (2011-13). In 49 games with the Huskies, Karlsson scored 34 points (15g-19a) and had 12 penalty minutes.
